What Not to Do After Reiki: Tips to Honor Your Energy

What Not to Do After Reiki11

You just had a beautiful Reiki session.

Your body feels lighter and your mind is calm.

But within moments, the outside world starts to pull at you again.

This is common.

Many of us have never learned how to protect that stillness. But because Reiki continues to work beneath the surface, it’s helpful to understand what supports integration and what might interfere with it.

Here are five simple things to avoid after Reiki, along with a few grounding practices to help the healing settle more fully.

1. Busy or Loud Spaces

Overstimulating environments can feel like a bit much right after a session. Your body is still integrating, and your senses may be heightened. It’s helpful to give yourself quiet time. Let the energy settle by choosing a peaceful setting, whether that’s a walk in nature, a calm room, or just sitting in stillness. Instead of going out, have a cozy night in.

2. Alcohol or Recreational Substances

Reiki invites the body into a natural healing rhythm. Substances like alcohol can interfere with that process, making it harder for your body to clear what it’s releasing. If possible, avoid these substances for at least 24 hours to support the energetic detox and keep your system clear.

3. Emotionally Charged Conversations

You might feel vulnerable or more open than usual. Try not to jump into heavy discussions, debates, or emotionally draining situations. It’s okay to set a boundary or delay a conversation while you give yourself space to process and rest.

4. Skipping Hydration or Healthy Food

After a Reiki session, your body may begin releasing what no longer serves it. Drinking plenty of water helps flush the system. Light, nourishing foods can support grounding and help you feel more stable. Try not to skip meals or rely on processed food while your body is recalibrating. I recommend choosing meals that are easy to digest, like the ones featured in our Top Anti-Inflammatory Foods post.

5. Overthinking or Analyzing the Session

You do not have to make sense of everything right away. Some sensations or emotions may show up without explanation. That’s okay. Let your body and spirit process in their own time. Journal if it feels helpful, but trust that the shifts are still happening even if you do not fully understand them yet.

Gentle Self-Care to Deepen the Healing

These simple rituals can help support the energy work your body is already doing:

  • Take a salt bath or shower to rinse off lingering energy and seal in the shifts
  • Journal your insights or feelings to give them space to sink in
  • Spend time in nature or quiet to reconnect with your center and allow space for integration

A Loving Reminder

The way you care for yourself after a Reiki session is part of the healing itself. Small, intentional choices can help the energy settle and deepen the shifts already taking place.

You do not have to get it perfect. Life happens. But making a conscious effort to tend to your energy, even in small ways, can make a meaningful difference in how you feel and how the healing unfolds.

I hope this guide gives you something to return to any time you need it.

Love & light,
Nelle 🌿
